Lasswade Road to reopen for Monday 18 August

Lasswade Road, from the roundabout at the A7 to the junction with Captains Gardens, will reopen for Monday 18 August.

Making it easier to reach the hospital and railway station

The stretch closed as part of Phase 1 of our project to build new footpaths, safe crossings, and bus stops on the west side of Eskbank, which has recently expanded.

Phase 2

Phase 2 gets underway on 18 August and will see footpaths, lighting, green/blue strip installed on the south bound lane between the Melville roundabout and Tesco roundabout. A bus layby will also be installed to the rear of Viscount Road.

No traffic lights or roads closed

No road closures or traffic signals are required as the work can be done safely by narrowing lanes and reducing speed limits.

Phase 2 is expected to last six weeks.

Phase 3 delivered overnight

Phase 3, the final stage, will involve resurfacing 12,000 m2 of roads worked on in phases 1 and 2 including the A7, the roundabout at Melville, Melville Dyke Road and Lasswade Road. This will be done overnight with roads closed between around 7pm and 7am.

We will also be installing bus shelters, Real Time Passenger Information signs and toucan crossing but this will not disrupt traffic.

Easier to reach hospital and rail station

When finished, these improvements will make it easier for people to use public transport and reach places like Eskbank rail station and Midlothian Community Hospital using a new footpath.

Not part of recent consultation

This project is separate from the recent A7 urbanisation consultation and is part of the Local Transport Strategy.

Fully funded

These works are part of planning obligations and is fully funded by developer contributions.
