Celebrating Progress and Looking Ahead: Midlothian’s Education Priorities for 2025/26
Midlothian councillors today approved the Education Service’s plan for the current school year and thanked all those who have contributed to the successes achieved in 2024/25.
Read the plan
The Education Service Improvement Plan 2025-2026 summarises the planned improvement actions Midlothian Council will take this year and highlights a sample of achievements identified by internal and external inspection teams from the previous year.
In 2024/25, schools across Midlothian were praised for their nurturing environments, strong relationships, and inclusive learning. Children were described as happy, respectful and enthusiastic, with many making strong progress in literacy and numeracy. Staff worked together to create engaging, enjoyable and relevant lessons, with a clear focus on children’s rights and wellbeing.
Fresh priorities
Building on this success, Midlothian Council’s Education Service has streamlined its priorities for 2025/26 to focus on two key areas:
-
Inclusive Learning, Teaching, Assessment and Curriculum
-
Wellbeing, Targeted Support and Partnerships
These priorities aim to ensure every learner receives high-quality teaching and attainment is raised by meeting the needs of all learners.
Thanks to all staff
Councillor Ellen Scott, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “I’m delighted to see the progress made across our schools and nurseries.
"Our plan for the year ahead builds on this strong foundation, ensuring every child in Midlothian has the chance to thrive and be the best they can be. I would also like to thank all our staff whose commitment and hard work cannot be underestimated in helping to achieve these ends”
