Key areas
Uplifts are available on a first come first served basis in Dalkeith/Woodburn, Mayfield/Easthouses, and Gorebridge - areas affected by instances of deliberate fire raising in the past.
Collection dates
Uplifts are offered on the following days:
- Monday 27 October – Gorebridge
- Tuesday 28 October – Gorebridge
- Wednesday 29 October – Mayfield/Easthouses
- Thursday 30 October – Mayfield/Easthouses

Unnecessary danger
As well as being a danger to individuals, homes and communities, unauthorised bonfires can divert the Fire and Rescue Service from dealing with other, more pressing emergencies.
Report and uplift
Residents can report public areas where combustible items need to be collected, as well as ordering the free uplift of specific flammable items from their homes such as furniture, carpets and mattresses.
Soiled items should be wrapped before pick up.
Items we can’t collect
Unfortunately some items can’t be collected during the Waste Amnesty. Please don’t put out fridges, freezers, cookers, washing machines, dish washers, tumble dryers, bathroom suites, coal boxes, or asbestos.
Please refer to our waste and recycling pages for advice on how to dispose of these items safely.
Giving back
Collections will carried out by the Unpaid Work Team, made up of people who have been issued a Community Payback Order from the Court, giving them the chance to give back to local communities.
Working in partnership
The Bonfire Night Waste Amnesty is jointly promoted by Midlothian Council, Midlothian Community Safety and Justice Partnership, Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
