A7 improvements update
The A7 improvements between Melville Golf Centre and the Tesco roundabout are progressing, even though we faced two major challenges:
- We had to switch back to traffic signals because of high traffic speeds.
- We discovered a large, uncharted sandstone seam, which meant extra hard digging, removing unsuitable material, and some delays.
By Sunday, 23 November, we aim to:
- Remove all traffic control measures from the A7.
- Finish all bus stops and footpaths, including those connecting to nearby housing estates.
- Work with Lothian Buses so the No. 29 route can start using the new stops.
- Complete the final setup of traffic signals and prepare bus shelters and real-time passenger information signs for the northbound stops.
Next steps: Due to bad weather and shorter working days, we have decided to pause the project until spring 2026. This will give residents and drivers a break from construction. When we return, we will finish the link to the Tesco Roundabout as planned. In the meantime, we will lay a temporary surface so people can use the completed sections right away. Many thanks for your patience.
