Easthouses Primary School Celebrated at Learning Places Scotland Awards

Easthouses Primary School has been recognised at the prestigious Learning Places Awards in Glasgow, jointly winning the Inspiring Learning Spaces category and receiving a commendation for Project of the Year.

Fantastic recognition

Councillor Ellen Scott, Midlothian Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Easthouses Primary School has won the Inspiring Learning Spaces Award. This achievement is a fantastic recognition of the creativity and collaboration that went into delivering such an exceptional learning environment. Opened in August 2024, Easthouses Primary is already making a real difference for pupils and the wider community, and this award celebrates the vision and hard work of everyone involved — from our Midlothian Council team to Hub South East, Morrison Construction, and jmarchitects. Congratulations to all.”

Partnership working

Delivered by Hub South East for Midlothian Council, with Morrison Construction as main contractor and design by jmarchitects, the project includes a brand-new primary school, early years provision, and facilities for children with Additional Support Needs (ASN). It also features a small school for deaf children and 80 pre-school places.

Innovative design

Located on the former Newbattle High School site, the building, which opened in August 2024, accommodates 459 pupils and reflects a pilot approach to innovative design and construction aligned with Midlothian’s progressive education strategy.

Quality construction

Paul McGirk, Chief Executive of Hub South East, said the win “demonstrates true partnership working, innovative design, quality construction and ultimately positive outcomes for young people.”
