Rosewell Primary leading the way in digital learning

Congratulations to pupils and staff at Rosewell Primary School for achieving the prestigious Digital Schools Award.

National award

The Digital Schools Award Scotland is a national award designed to promote, recognise and encourage a whole‑school approach to using digital technology effectively in teaching and learning.

Accredited

Open to nursery, primary, secondary and special schools across Scotland, the Award is accredited by Education Scotland and celebrates schools that demonstrate excellence in digital practice. The award supports schools in embedding digital tools throughout the curriculum rather than just treating digital learning as an add‑on.

Mentor Status

Rosewell Primary has not only achieved the Award, but has also been granted mentor status, meaning the school will now support and share its expertise with schools across Scotland.

Submission

As part of the submission, the school undertook a detailed self‑assessment and provided evidence across key areas including leadership and vision, digital technology integration in the curriculum, digital culture, staff professional development, and the quality of resources and infrastructure.

Mark of excellence

Achieving the Digital Schools Award is a significant mark of excellence, showing that Rosewell Primary thoughtfully embeds digital technology across learning, supports pupils to use digital tools confidently and safely, demonstrates strong leadership in digital practice, and actively shares good practice with the wider school community.

Online safety

Head Teacher Shona Richardson said:
“Since lockdown, we’ve continued to build on the many positives of using digital technology to support our learners. This award is a shared success for our whole school community - our pupils, staff, and families. It also highlights our commitment to teaching children how to stay safe online.”

Commitment

Councillor Ellen Scott, Cabinet Member with responsibility for education, said:
"We’re delighted to see Rosewell Primary recognised with the Digital Schools Award. The school’s commitment to digital learning and to sharing good practice is helping pupils build the confidence and skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Well done everyone."

Journey

Five schools in Midlothian have now achieved the national Digital Schools Award in the last year alone and the council is showing its commitment to digital learning by supporting other local schools on their journey toward achieving this accreditation.
