Local residents invited to help shape plans for new Shawfair Community Campus

Local people are invited to drop in to a series of community events to hear more about – and share their views on – early development proposals for a new community and all-through education campus at Shawfair.

Comment on initial designs

The council has submitted a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) for the campus, which will identified as a key project within the Shawfair Masterplan. As part of this process, the council is inviting local people to view and comment on the initial design proposals that will inform a future planning application later this year.

Come along

The first round of public consultation events will take place on:

  • Wednesday 11 February 2026, 4.30pm–8.30pm at Danderhall Community Hub, Edmonstone Road, Danderhall, Dalkeith EH22 1QL
  • Thursday 12 February 2026, 4.30pm–8.30pm at Millerhill Community Hub, Dalkeith EH22 1FG

Exhibition boards

At both drop‑in sessions, members of the development team will be on hand to answer questions, and exhibition boards will display the emerging proposals.

More drop-ins

A second round of events will follow on:

  • Wednesday 11 March 2026, 4.30pm–8.30pm at Danderhall Community Hub
  • Thursday 12 March 2026, 4.30pm–8.30pm at Millerhill Community Hub

Designs shaped by your feedback

These sessions will present more detailed and refined plans, including any changes made in response to feedback from the first consultations. Visitors will also be able to learn more about the programme and arrangements for submitting the planning application.

Further chances to comment

Anyone unable to attend can still submit comments to the applicant. However, feedback provided at this stage is not a formal representation to Midlothian Council as the Planning Authority. There will be a further opportunity to comment once a planning application is submitted.

Not about the catchment

Please note: these events focus on the building proposals only. A separate statutory consultation on the catchment for the all-through education campus will take place in the spring. Education representatives will be available at the PAN events to answer catchment‑related questions. The all-through campus will accommodate children and young people aged three to eighteen.
