Road Improvement Works on the A7 – Starting 16 February
We are starting improvements on the A7, between Lothianbridge and the Sun Inn, from 16 February. Further details are in the map below.
Making the route safer
These upgrades will make the route safer and more accessible for everyone. The project includes:
- Widened and improved footpaths to support safer walking and wheeling
- A new signalised pedestrian crossing at the Carrington Road junction, creating a safer point to cross
- Carriageway resurfacing to provide a smoother, more reliable travelling experience for road users
Keeping traffic flowing
The work is expected to last approximately six weeks. Temporary traffic signals will be in place throughout, with manual control from 7am to 7pm daily to help keep traffic flowing and minimise disruption.
School holidays
To further reduce impact, the section requiring three‑way traffic lights has been scheduled during the school holidays, when traffic volumes are typically lower.
Funded by Transport Scotland
This project is funded by Transport Scotland through in‑year investment and forms part of ongoing efforts to improve Midlothian’s transport network for local residents, visitors and businesses.
Many thanks
Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we deliver these important improvements for our community.
