Proposal to create new Gorebridge Hub approved

Midlothian Councillors today approved proposals to relocate Gorebridge Library into Gorebridge Leisure Centre, creating a new Gorebridge Hub that brings valued local services together under one roof.
Under the plans, the library will move into the leisure centre without any structural changes to the building. All existing groups, clubs and activities offered by both services, including the Lend and Mend Hub, will continue.
New Gym Upgrades
As part of the project, gym equipment at the leisure centre will be upgraded. A further £983,000 will be invested over the next five years to replace the leisure centre’s heating, wiring and water systems. These improvements will extend the life of the building and reduce its running costs.
The relocation is expected to begin in late May 2026, once the leisure centre has been used as a polling place for the Scottish Parliamentary Elections.
Four week relocation due to start in May
The move is expected to take around four weeks. After relocation, the existing library building will be placed on the market.
At present, library and leisure opening hours differ. Once both services are co-located at the Gorebridge Hub, self-service will be made available for library users in the evenings after 7pm and on Wednesday afternoons.
Secures long-term future
Cllr Dianne Alexander, Cabinet Member for Communities said: “I welcome the plans to create a Gorebridge Hub. This proposal brings services together and secures the long-term future of both the library and leisure centre.
“Housing multiple services under one roof has proven successful across Midlothian, with similar hubs already established in Penicuik, Danderhall, Lasswade and Loanhead.
“By investing in a Gorebridge Hub now, we can protect much loved local services, improve the experience for residents and staff, and build a hub that supports wellbeing, learning and community life for years to come.”
