Warm praise for Rosewell Primary School following positive inspection

Rosewell Primary School is celebrating a very positive inspection by Education Scotland, an executive agency of the Scottish Government that works to improve the quality of education across Scotland.
Range of strengths
Inspectors visited the school and nursery in December 2025 and highlighted a wide range of strengths across learning, teaching, wellbeing and leadership.
Rates as 'very good' and 'good' in key areas
The inspection team rated three key areas in the primary school as ‘very good’: Leadership of Change, Learning, Teaching and Assessment, and Ensuring Wellbeing, Equality and Inclusion. They also rated Raising Attainment and Achievement as ‘good’.
Thumbs up for nursery too
In the nursery, inspectors found ‘very good’ staff skills, values and deployment, with all other evaluated areas rated ‘good’.
Praise for pupils and staff
Inspectors noted that children at Rosewell Primary are polite, kind and proud of their school. Staff were praised for being enthusiastic and well‑informed, using research to improve learning. The school’s strong digital culture was also recognised, with children confidently using technology to support their work. Early years children benefit from high‑quality play-based learning that builds independence and creativity.
Warm and nuturing
In the nursery, staff were commended for their warm, nurturing relationships with children and families, as well as their effective questioning and thoughtful planning to support each child’s progress.
Incredibly proud
Headteacher Shona Richardson welcomed the findings, saying: “We are incredibly proud of our children and staff. This report reflects the hard work, kindness and commitment shown across our school community every day. We will continue to build on these strengths to make Rosewell Primary the best it can be.”
Continue to thrive
Midlothian Council’s Education Service will continue to support Rosewell Primary as part of its ongoing improvement work, ensuring that the school and nursery continue to thrive.
