School Intake August 2026 – P1 & S1 placement letters

P1 school placement letters (including out of catchment placing requests) submitted before 15 March 2026 are being issued from week beginning 20 April 2026.
Letters for S1 out of catchment placing requests submitted by the same date are also being issued from this week.

Next steps

If you do not receive your child’s P1 or S1 placement letter by Friday 1 May 2026, please email pupil.placement@midlothian.gov.uk. Please do not contact the team about placement outcomes before 1 May 2026, as copies cannot be issued before this date.

Updating your details (P1 or S1)

If you need to tell us about a change of address, have moved out of Midlothian, or have accepted a P1 or S1 place in another local authority, please email pupil.placement@midlothian.gov.uk. Include your child’s full name, date of birth, previous and new addresses (with acceptable proof of residency), or details of the school place you no longer require and the new school your child will attend.

Important information for S1 parents/carers

If you did not make an S1 placing request, you will not receive a letter. Your child’s place at their catchment school is confirmed.

Late placing requests

P1 or S1 placing requests received after 15 March 2026 will receive a decision letter up to two months after the request is submitted.
