To mark Midlothian Trauma Awareness Week (7 to 11 September), Midlothian Council is hosting two free events for local residents and professionals interested in learning more about trauma-informed practice.

Understanding the impact of trauma

Last year, Midlothian became the first council in Scotland to hold a dedicated Trauma Awareness Week. Now in its second year, Midlothian Trauma Awareness Week aims to raise awareness and understanding of the impact trauma can have on individuals, families and communities. It also highlights the positive work being carried out by staff, services and organisations across Midlothian to help people affected by trauma to grow, recover and thrive.

Suicide Prevention

This year's programme also marks World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September, with a focus on the important links between trauma awareness and suicide prevention.

Come along

Midlothian Council Leader, Councillor Kelly Parry encourages anyone with an interest in trauma, whether through their work or personal experience, to come along to the events. She said:

“Trauma can affect anyone, and understanding its impact is an important step towards building kinder and more compassionate communities. These events will showcase the positive work taking place across Midlothian and give people the opportunity to learn more about trauma-informed approaches. By working together, we can create an environment where everyone feels safe, included and supported to reach their full potential.”
