Midlothian’s Young People Awards 2026 launched!
The annual Midlothian’s Young People Awards (MYPA) 2026 are now open for nominations in five categories.
Who can be nominated?
Both individuals and youth groups can be nominated. Nominees should be aged between 8-26 years old at the time of their nomination.
Supported by Lord-Lieutenant and young people
These awards are organised by Midlothian Council in conjunction with the Lord-Lieutenant of Midlothian. They are also supported by Midlothian Young Ambassadors who are selected for their commitment and ability as young leaders or volunteers.
Five categories
The five award categories reflect the various positive contributions of young people to Midlothian. The categories are:
- Caring and Volunteering
- Local Community
- Sport and Physical Activity
- Arts and Culture
- Achievement in Learning
The Midlothian Prize
In addition to the five category awards, there is also a sixth 'Midlothian Prize' award that is presented to the most outstanding young person from all the nominations.
Who can nominate?
Nominations can be made by individuals, youth organisations, schools and colleges and employers on the online nomination form which can be found on the Midlothian’s Young People Awards (MYPA) pages of the council website.

Deadline
The closing date for nominations is Friday 9 October 2026.
Judging
The judging panel consists of a young person and representatives in the community.
Prizes
Each winner will receive a trophy, certificate and a cash prize to be gifted to a Midlothian community group or local charity of their choice.
Prize ceremony
Winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony, hosted by Midlothian’s new Lord-Lieutenant, Sarah Barron and the Midlothian Provost Debbi McCall on 24 November at Rosslyn Chapel. All shortlisted nominees will be invited to this event.
Exceptional young people
Lord-Lieutenant, Sarah Barron said:
“Midlothian is fortunate to have so many inspiring young people who give their time, energy and talents to support others and to make a positive difference in their communities. Their commitment and achievements deserve to be recognised and celebrated. I would encourage everyone across Midlothian to think about the exceptional young people they know and nominate someone deserving for this year’s Midlothian Young People’s Awards. Putting forward a nomination is a meaningful way to show a young person that their contribution is valued and appreciated."
She added:
“I look forward to hearing about the many inspiring stories of young people from across Midlothian and to celebrating their achievements at this year’s Awards Ceremony.”
Contribution to communities
Councillor Ellen Scott, Midlothian cabinet member with responsibility for education, children and young people, said:
“Our young people make a tremendous contribution to communities across Midlothian, whether through volunteering, creativity, leadership, resilience or helping others. I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to nominate a young person who deserves recognition. These awards celebrate the talent, dedication and positive difference that so many young people make every day, and help ensure their achievements are recognised and valued.”
