Project Update – Replacement Beeslack Community High School
Following a competitive tender process and approval at September Council, Morrison Construction has been appointed to complete the RIBA Stage 3 and 4 design for the replacement Beeslack Community High School project.
Project Scope
The school will provide capacity for 1200 pupils, with core accommodation such as dining, gym halls and social areas for 1400 pupils. The school will also include a swimming pool, Additional Support Needs (ASN) provision, community and external sports facilities.
The Severe and Complex Medical Needs (SCMN) provision, previously proposed as part of the campus, will now be located at another site in Midlothian. Further details will follow.
Programme and Timelines
The anticipated completion and opening of the new school are programmed for the end of 2029. Further updates will be provided as key stages are reached.
Planning Consultation Events
A Proposal of Application Notice (POAN) for the project has been submitted. This marks an important step towards the submission of a full planning application of the redesigned school in January 2027.
Drop-in events
There are two public consultation events taking place for the POAN:
- Wednesday 21 October, 3.30pm-8pm at Beeslack Community High School
- Wednesday 11 November, 3.30pm-8pm at Bilston Primary School
Representatives from Midlothian Council and the project team will be available to answer questions and gather feedback on the proposals.
