About our collections
Local Studies is a unique collection about the history and culture of Midlothian, including family history.
The collection includes:
- Official records
- Books
- Burials information
- Historic newspapers
- Photographs and postcards
- Maps and plans
- Archives
The Local Studies collection is reference only. There is a standard list of regulations for using the collection and all users are asked to abide by these.
Microfilm and microfiche readers are available, which can be reserved. There are two public access computers and a photocopier with a standard charge for copying.
Copyright-free images may be scanned although there is a charge for this service. Guidance notes are available if you wish to use our images in a publication.
