Outcome
The public was consulted before the licensing scheme was introduced in Midlothian and the information given helped inform the new policy. Interested parties such as Police Scotland and the Scottish Association of Self-Caterers were also asked for their views. In total 29 people responded, with 55% of those people who are offering short term lets.

Summary
Local authorities were required to establish a short-term lets licensing scheme by 1 October 2022.
The legislation was developed in response to concerns raised by residents and communities about the impact of short-term let properties on their locality, including noise, antisocial behaviour and the impact on the supply of housing in some areas.
