Savings proposals for 2023/24

Bridging our budget gap

On Tuesday 21 February, councillors set a balanced budget of in excess of £260 million and bridged a budget gap of £7.84 million.

Councillors considered a range of savings proposals, some of which were approved while others will be reconsidered.

Councillors agreed to raise Council Tax by 5% and approved new savings proposals. The new savings approved are:

  • To review the Communities and Lifelong Learning Service - saving £250,000 in 2023/24
  • To review the Communications Service - saving £50,000 in 2023/24
  • To recover the full cost of all parking fines - saving £100,000 in 2023/24
  • To replace roads maintenance costs with £2.5 million a year capital spending - saving £300,000 in 2023/24 (there will be additional loan charges of £37,000)
