Have Your Say on the New Shawfair 2–18 School Proposal

Midlothian Council is inviting residents to share their views on plans for a new school campus in Shawfair.

Catchment changes

Parents, carers, staff, children and the wider community are asked to fill in a short survey on proposals to create a new ‘all‑through’ school for 2-18-year-olds in Shawfair, along with changes to the catchment areas for Danderhall Primary School and Dalkeith High School. The statutory consultation is open now and will run until Wednesday 27 May 2026.

More on the proposals

Under the proposals:

  • New catchment areas would be created for the Shawfair 2–18 Education Campus, and the catchment areas for Danderhall Primary School and Dalkeith High School would be adjusted.
  • A new all‑through school providing early learning, primary, secondary, and specialist ASN (Additional Support Needs) provision would be built to serve children and young people living in the new catchment area.
  • The school would open on its permanent site in August 2028, or as soon as possible after that, once the new building is complete.
  • Realignment of the Danderhall Primary and Dalkeith High School catchment areas would take effect from August 2027.
