Could you be part of a child or young person’s story?
Midlothian Council has launched a new fostering campaign this week to mark the start of Foster Care Fortnight which runs from 11 - 26 May.
Vital role
The “Could You Be Part of Their Story?”, campaign highlights the powerful role foster carers play in shaping the lives of children and young people.
Life stories
At the heart of the campaign is a simple but meaningful message: when you become a foster carer, you don’t just provide a home, you become a chapter in a child’s life story. The visuals shows carers of different backgrounds sharing special moments with children, reading stories together, to reflect both the importance of quality time and the deeper idea of becoming part of a young person's journey.
Building connections
Creative activities, such as reading together, build connections which can have a lasting impact on a child’s confidence, wellbeing and sense of security.
Promoted locally
Residents will see the campaign across the local area, with eye-catching lamppost wraps, as well as posters and leaflets available in community spaces including libraries, leisure centres, GP surgeries and other local venues. The campaign will also feature on the council’s social media platforms.
Support
People from a wide range of backgrounds can become foster carers. Carers receive:
- High quality support and advice
- Comprehensive training package
- Paid annual leave
- Fees & allowances
Help us build brighter futures
The council is encouraging anyone who has ever thought about fostering, or who feels inspired by the campaign, to take the next step and learn more during Foster Care Fortnight. Cllr Ellen Scott, Cabinet member with responsibility for fostering said:
“Foster Care Fortnight is an important opportunity to shine a light on the incredible impact foster carers have on children and young people. This campaign is about showing that fostering is not just about providing care, it’s about connection, shared experiences and being part of a child’s life story. By becoming a foster carer, individuals can offer stability to children and young people who may be facing difficult times, helping them to build brighter futures.”
