The need for a new strategy
Midlothian is Scotland’s fastest-growing council area. By 2036, the number of homes is expected to rise by 29%. That means more people travelling, and we need a solid plan to manage this increase.
The LTS gives us a long-term framework to make informed decisions about transport and to plan future improvements. How the strategy was developed
The LTS follows national transport planning guidance. In 2024/25, we asked for local views on transport issues and what changes people want to see. We then tested different ideas to see what could work best. All that feedback and research has shaped the new draft strategy.
