Even after reducing, reusing and recycling your waste, a standard sized wheeled bin may be too small for the non-recyclable waste you produce. If required, we can supply a larger bin for an initial period of 3 years from the date of approval. You will have to confirm you are still eligible after this time.

Eligibility

You can apply for a larger grey bin if your household circumstances have changed in the past 8 weeks

and:

  • 6 or more people permanently live in your home
  • or 5 people including one child using disposable nappies permanently live in your home OR
  • or 2 children using disposable nappies permanently live in your home OR
  • or you need more space to dispose of medical waste (e.g. used dressings, stoma or catheter bags, incontinence pads, PPE used by personal care providers)

Disposal of animal waste will only be considered in your application if it is for an accredited service or assistance animal.

Important:

  • We may ask for evidence of the above to support your application.
  • Your household must make full use of our recycling collection services before and after we provide your larger bin.
  • We may ask you to complete a waste diary.
  • We will do random checks. If you put items in the larger bin that you could easily separate for recycling, we will remove it and replace it with a standard bin.
  • Permanent residents are those who live in the property day-to-day. They do not include:
    • minded children
    • children staying under a split parental access arrangement
    • family members away for higher education for part of the year
