Kinship care
Becoming a kinship carer
Before placing a child or young person with you we will assess if this arrangement is suitable and meets their needs. We will do this through an assessment or a Looked After and Accommodated Child Review.
An assessment includes:
- a visit you at home to interview you and ensure your home is suitable for the child's needs
- Disclosure Scotland checks on every adult in the caring household
- a check the social care database and the health records of all potential carers
A Looked After and Accommodated Child review includes:
- your ability to meet the child's specific needs.
- your family history, experience of childcare, your lifestyle and family relationships
- the support needs of you and the child or young person.
Placements are reviewed regularly to make sure they continue to meet the child's needs.
