Borrow books and other things

If your local library doesn’t have what you want, you can ask us to look in another Midlothian library.
Before you can borrow from the library, you must first join.
How many items you can borrow
- Adults can borrow 20 items
- Teenagers can borrow 15 items
- Children can borrow 10 items
How long you can borrow items for
- Books, CDs, DVDs, CD audiobooks, and musical instruments for 4 weeks.
- eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines for 3 weeks.
- You can renew an item up to 3 times, as long as no one else has reserved it.
- Lend + Mend equipment and Junior Kits (Telescopes) can be loaned for one week and can be renewed once, as long as no one else has reserved it.
Reserve an item
Reserve an item held at a different library, or out on loan, and collect it from your local library:
- Sign in to the library catalogue with your library card number and 4 digit PIN.
- Search for the title you want to borrow and click 'Reserve'.
- Choose the library you'd like to collect it from.
- When your reservation is ready for collection we'll be in touch.
You can also reserve items by email, telephone or in person at any library.
Reservations are free.
