Lend + Mend

Lend + Mend is a community‑based library service that goes beyond borrowing books. Our Lend + Mend Hubs provide access to tools, equipment, and space so you can repair, reuse, upcycle or create to give your items a longer life instead of discarding them.

The hubs will help you save money and make the most of what you already own. They support a circular economy by reducing waste and support sustainable living.

Our Lend + Mend hubs are part of a Scotland‑wide network delivered by the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC).

What you can do

  • Mend or alter clothing and textiles with sewing machines, overlocker, embroidery machine, and haberdashery equipment (*overlocker and embroidery machine are only available at Gorebridge Library).
  • Upcycle or transform fabric or household items.
  • Meet others, exchange ideas, and take part in community‑led creative or repair projects.
  • Borrow tools for home maintenance, or home improvement tasks, and we've got cake tins too.

Who can use the hub

The Hubs are open to all Midlothian Library Members.
You must be over 18 to borrow items, and read and signed our Customer Usage Agreement.

How it works

Simply pop into one of our Lend + Mend hubs during opening hours. Whatever you want to do, the equipment, space and friendly support are all here for you.
To find out what is available or if you would like to make a reservation call or email your local Lend + Mend Hub and we’ll be happy to help.
You can bring your own materials (textiles, fabric, items to repair) or use the materials available at the hub, depending on the hub’s resources.
