Electric vehicle (EV) charging
Midlothian Council position on trailing charging cables
Midlothian Council does not permit the trailing of electrical cables across public spaces, including footways, to reach vehicles parked on-street, for safety and accessibility reasons. The council also does not permit any cabling under the pavement surface.
Update of July 2026.
The council (a Scottish Roads Authority) is reviewing guidance published in May by a Scotland-wide EV Cross Pavement Charging short life working group made up of other Scottish councils. Its aim is to develop a consistent framework on trailing cables for all Scottish local authorities.
Once reviewed, we will use the guidance to create our own internal policy.
