ASN Transport Policy

This policy outlines our approach to providing school transport for pupils with ASN, including eligibility, the application process, and the roles of parents, schools, transport providers, and the Council. Transport assistance is a collaborative process designed to provide safe, reliable, and suitable transport while promoting independence. This policy applies to pupils with medical, physical, social, emotional, behavioural, or educational needs.

Our transport policy ensures safe, unbiased, and sustainable transport for all eligible individuals. It addresses the diverse needs of primary and secondary school pupils, individuals with Additional Support Needs (ASN), eligible children through Children’s Services and adults accessing social care services.

It is subject to annual review to ensure compliance with statutory obligations, adaptability to demographic changes, and alignment with our strategic goals

The policy encompasses:

  • Home-to-School Transport: Eligibility for primary and secondary pupils based on distance, safety, and additional support needs.
  • Walked Routes to Schools Assessment: Safety evaluations of pedestrian routes to schools.
  • ASN Transport: Tailored transport for children and young people with medical, physical, or emotional needs.
  • Children’s Services Transport: Customised transport solutions for eligible children and young people.
  • Adult Social Care Transport: Support for eligible individuals accessing
