A by-election was held on Thursday 22 March 2018 in Ward No 1 - Penicuik - following the death of Cllr Adam Montgomery.

The count was on Friday 23 March at the Ladywood Centre in Penicuik.

The Scottish National Party candidate, Joe Wallace, won at Stage 3.
