About the project

The Musical Instrument Library is part of a Scotland-wide initiative led by We Make Music.

Since launching in 2022, the project has expanded to libraries across the country, helping more people access and enjoy music.

How to borrow instruments

In person

  1. Visit one of our Musical Instrument Libraries in Midlothian to get started.
  2. Browse the printed catalogue or look at the instruments in person before borrowing.
  3. If you’re not already a member, bring some ID and our staff will sign you up on the spot.
  4. Instruments must be returned to the same library.

Reserve online for collection

  1. Existing library members can browse and reserve instruments through our online catalogue for collection at the relevant branch.
  2. Instruments must be returned to the same library.
