Pay your rent

These are the different ways you can pay your rent:

Direct Debit

To set up a Direct Debit through your bank account, call us on 0131 271 3201. We can take your details over the phone, or send you a paper Direct Debit instruction.

Note: If you are using a Building Society, you should check that they accept Direct Debit requests.

If using Direct Debit you can choose to pay your rent in the following ways:

  • monthly on the 1st, 15th or at the end of the month
  • or weekly instalments every Monday.

Online

You will need your 9 digit reference number, at the bottom right of your rent card.

By phone 24 hours a day

Call 0131 660 1845. You can pay using any debit or credit card.

Note: calls cost 3 pence per minute plus your phone company's access charge. You will not be charged for debit card payments but credit cards include a £2.50 fee.

By payment card

You can use your rent payment card at the post office, or any shop that displays the Paypoint or Payzone sign. You can also pay at the Council collection office at Buccleuch House, Dalkeith.

By post

Cheques or Postal Orders should be made payable to Midlothian Council and sent to:

Please write your name, address and tenancy reference number clearly on the back of the cheque or Postal Order.

Request new payment card

If you lose your payment card you can apply for a new card online, or call us on 0131 271 3201.
