Access Protection Marking

An Access Protection Marking is a white line painted on the road to highlight the entrance to your driveway or garage. It is not legally enforceable, it is only an ‘advisory’ road marking.

We cannot enforce it but if someone is completely blocking a vehicle from leaving your drive (with or without an access protection marking) that is an offence and you can report it to Police Scotland.

Cost

To install a new marking or to refresh an existing one is £142. 

If you have a valid Blue Badge, you can apply for a new or a refresh of an existing marking for free.

Process for installation

• Once we receive your request, we will carry out an inspection. You must have a dropped kerb to either a garage, driveway or off-street parking.
• If we approve your request, we will contact you by email to request payment.
• Once payment is received, we will make arrangements to install or refresh your marking. This can take up to 8 weeks, depending on contractor availability and weather conditions.
