A disabled person’s parking space can be painted on the road near your house if you have a taxed vehicle registered at your address and no access to off-street parking.

Once the bay is painted anyone displaying a valid Blue Badge can park in it.

If a disabled bay near you is often used by vehicles without Blue Badges on show, let us know.

If there is a disabled person's parking space near you that is no longer needed, let us know. Once reported it can take up to 12 weeks for removal.

If you have off-street parking and are having trouble accessing it because of parked vehicles you can apply for an Access Protection Marking.

Process for installation

  1. Once we receive your application we will visit your property to check if the marking is suitable and safe and to agree its location. We may need to contact you by phone or email at this stage – please make sure you have provided up-to-date contact details on your application.
  2. We will paint the space on the road. This can take around 12 weeks from the location being agreed, but may be longer in Winter. We will phone you on the day to let you know we are coming. If there is a car blocking the area we need to paint we will try to contact the owner, but if we can’t, we will return on another date.
  3. We will begin the process to make the space legally enforceable by our Parking Attendants – this could be a few months after the bay is painted. We will ask if there are any objections from your local community. Until it is legally enforceable the space is 'advisory only'.

We process requests in large batches 2 or 3 times a year so your parking space may take a few months to be made legally enforceable. Once it is legally enforceable it is an offence for someone to park in, or encroach on the disabled space if they do not have a valid Blue Badge (up to £100 fine).
