Provost presents Green Business Award.

The Annual Enterprise Exhibition and Awards Ceremony by Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce took place this year at the new £60 million state-of-the-art Roslin Institute building.

With more than 200 delegates attending, the exhibition and awards ceremony - held on 12 October 2011 - is the largest business-to-business event in the region.

This year - for the first time - we sponsored the Green Business Award as part of our ongoing programme of work to support and encourage investment and business development.

The winner of this new award is McLaren Plastics Ltd, an injection moulding company based at Pentland Industrial Estate, Loanhead. With moulding operations running 24-hrs a day, 7 days a week, the 35 staff manufacture a range of plastic carton handles, plugs, plastic closures and a variety of technical components to customers in the UK, the EU, north America and Asia.

Set up in 1960, McLaren Plastics - which is a member of the Green Business Partnership - serves customers operating in the drinks, engineering, electronics, agriculture, automotive, leisure products and packaging markets.

Bruce McLaren, Quality and Environmental Manager, McLaren Plastics, said; "As well as keeping our customers satisfied, we also need to work towards efficient use of energy. "

Councillor Adam Montgomery, Provost of Midlothian, said; "Sponsoring the new Green Business Award underlines our commitment to working in partnership with Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce and its members to promote sustainable economic development. Our congratulations go to McLaren Plastics Ltd - along with our wishes for a 'green' and prosperous future."
