Consultation on proposals to discontinue education provision at St Margaret's RC Primary School
Conclusion
It is proposed that education provision at St Margaret’s RC Primary School be discontinued with effect from 1 July 2022 and the catchment areas of St Mary’s, St Matthew’s and Sacred Heart RC Primary Schools be extended to include the current catchment area of St Margaret’s RC Primary School.
This proposal will bring educational benefits to the present and future users of the affected schools and assist in ensuring that the education budget is more sustainable into the future, as the costs per pupil in under-occupied schools are excessively high. This is in line with our duty to secure best value.
As part of the council’s asset management strategy, the future use of the building would require to be assessed. A few potential options may be that it is required to satisfy the demand for additional support needs pupils or retained to meet capacity pressures due to the region’s growth. These and any other potential options will have to be considered.
Overall there are no environmental impacts as a result of this proposal.
Overall there are strong educational arguments in favour of this proposal.
