No change in Council Tax rates
The decision on Council Tax was part of the consideration of the council's Financial Strategy for next year. Councillors heard that as a consequence of the government grant settlement and the conditions attached to the funding, the financial position for 2016/17 was exceptionally challenging.
This is resulting in predicted expenditure for the year of £199.7 million with income from government grant and Council Tax £7.6 million less at £192.1 million.
Council was advised of a range of measure being taken to address the shortfall leaving a gap of £3.873 million still to be tackled. A special council meeting will take place on 8 March 2016. Councillors will be asked to consider a series of savings proposals to address the remaining budget gap and to agree a budget for the financial year starting on 1 April 2016.
