Heading off for a winter break?

Apply for a postal vote

Don’t forget you can apply for a postal or proxy vote if you are heading off for a winter holiday before the General Election on Thursday 12 December.

Don't miss your chance to vote

A proxy vote allows someone authorised by you to vote on your behalf. The deadline to apply for a postal or proxy vote is 5pm on Tuesday 26 November.

Note the timescales

Please note the first postal votes will be delivered to applicants no earlier than Thursday 28 November and the second batch of postal votes will be delivered no earlier than Wednesday 4 December.

A proxy may be better

If you are going on holiday during those times, you may, therefore, want to consider applying for a proxy vote instead.

A busy time of year

Returning Officer for the Midlothian constituency, Dr Grace Vickers said: “We’re urging everyone who wishes to use their vote to be made aware of the deadlines for postal and proxy votes as we realise this is a busy time for people, many of whom are going off on holiday.”
