GIRFEC - getting it right for every child

Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) is Scotland’s long standing, national commitment to provide all children, young people and their families with the right support at the right time, so that every child and young person can reach their full potential.

In Midlothian we want all children, young people and families to be supported to be the best they can be.  This is achieved through a nurturing, respectful and collaborative approach that promotes wellbeing, equity and inclusion.

Most children and young people get the support they need from their parents/carers, family members and the people around them in their community. Sometimes, families may benefit from some extra help, advice or support along the way.

We support children, young people and their families to work together with services to find the right help at the right time. By listening to families, working in partnership and keeping the child at the centre of decisions, everyone can work together to support positive outcomes for children and young people. GIRFEC starts with the services that most families already use, such as health and education. It focuses on offering support early, helping to address concerns before they become bigger challenges.
