SHINE

If you have something on your mind, these books, stories, e-resources and links, all chosen by health care professionals, can help you to feel better about it.

Many of these resources also cover advice for carers or for those worried for someone they know.

There are eBook and eAudiobook sections related to SHINE on our BorrowBox page.

All the topics below have a list of electronic and physical resources you can download or borrow from your local library, and links to organisations that offer help and advice.

Anxiety

Anxiety and stress can make everything seem unmanageable, from dealing with family and friends to managing schoolwork and extracurricular activities.

You may even begin to avoid situations that cause you stress, leaving you stuck in a cycle of worry and avoidance.

These resources offer ways to cope with, manage and understand stress and anxiety, and get through the day when you are feeling low.

Body image

Advertising and the media constantly tell us what we should aspire to look like, pressuring us all to fit in. This can lead to limiting conditions and issues that affect our lives.

These materials will help you explore body acceptance to help your journey to a happier and more confident you.

LGBTQI issues

Embracing who you are is perhaps the most important milestone for people who identify as LGBTQI. Accepting your sexual or gender identity can be hard, and many who identify as LGBTQI find it’s a long and sometimes confusing and difficult path, especially for those lacking support.

Feeling lonely or depressed

It's common to find yourself struggling with a low mood, and sadness that feels like it will never go away. This can  be especially hard to deal with when you can’t see your friends for support.

Our resources can point you to advice on how to cope with missing your friends, and ways to navigate difficult life events.
