The levels
Mini Course - beginners
Children will develop a good knowledge of ski equipment and be introduced to straight running and learn to control their speed using the plough shape.
Should the first date be missed for any reason, the other dates in the block cannot be attended.
Level 1 (8yr+)
Children will learn to control their speed using snowplough and learn to use the tow safely.
Should the first date be missed for any reason, the other dates in the block cannot be attended.
Level 2
This is ideal for children who can control their speed using a snowplough but cannot yet do snowplough turns. Children will learn to demonstrate a variety of turn shapes and snow plough turn from the middle station.
Ski Surfer (6-8yr)
Children will learn to expand the variety of arcs and the rhythm of their snowplough turns to improve confidence and choose their own speed and line appropriately. The teaching tactics applied are specifically aimed to offer fun and learning to this age group.
Level 3
Children should be able to confidently snow plough turn from the middle station and have sufficient 'miles under their feet' to be fluid and skilled enough to adopt varying arcs and turn shape. Children will learn to allow their inside ski to glide in and match their outside (bottom) ski after the fall line to create a parallel position to traverse across the hill.
Level 4
Children will develop their skills to allow them to match their inside ski earlier in the turn (before/ at the fall line). they will learn to ski, in control from the second red path. Poles will be introduced.
Level 5
Children will learn to steer their skis around an arc in a basic parallel position from the middle station (first red path.) Children will also learn how to demonstrate a hockey stop and will become able to ski down from the top (face) in control.
Level 6
Children will learn to execute basic parallel turns with a pole plant from the second red path. Children will also become able to ski down from the top (face) in control in parallel.
Level 7
This course is designed for children who can already perform parallel turns with a pole plant. There will be emphasis on skiing on the steep section of the slope; children will become able to ski down from the top in control (face) in parallel with a pole plant. The course will also cover short swing turns and an introduction to carving.
Mountain Masters (holiday dates only)
This course is intended for those that have level 7 and are wondering where to go next. Children will be given a flavour of different ways they can diversify their skills giving them insight into the world of race training and freestyle. The instructor will formulate the course to suit the group and will work at a variety of themes including carving, freestyle, steeps, race techniques and short radius turns. (Please note this is a non-certificated course.)
