Twinning links in Midlothian
Midlothian council has long valued the importance of twinning links to:
- promote peace and cultural exchange
- create long-lasting friendships
- boost trade and tourism
- exchange information and skills.
Midlothian has several active twinning links and the council supports these.
Twinning areas
Midlothian as a county is currently twinned with:
- Heinsberg in Germany established in 1973
- Komárom-Esztergom in Hungary established in 1978
Midlothian also has 4 twinning arrangements with French towns:
- Bonnyrigg and Lasswade with Saint-Cyr-l'École established in 2022
- Dalkeith with Jarnac established in 1960
- Danderhall with Angres established in 1980
- Penicuik with L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue established in 1978
Each twinned area has an active twinning association whose role it is to establish and maintain friendly relations with the association in the twinned area. The council supports these associations.
