Midlothian caps pupil intake for 2017/18
Agreed by the council
Pupil enrolment for the 2017/18 school session is now underway and schools are expected to complete the registration of catchment pupils during December. The council agreed on Tuesday to cap primary 1 intake in 17 Primary schools; to progress the identification of a viable location for an enlarged Lasswade Primary School; and to bring a further report back to council in February regarding the recommendation to designate the non-denominational primary school to be built on the site of the former Hopefield Primary School to be part of Burnbrae Primary School.
In addition, the council agreed to progress the acquisition of additional primary school capacity for Mayfield and Dalkeith. In secondary sector, the S1 intake limit of 300 pupils that is in place for Lasswade High School will continue to apply in 2017.
Why are limits needed?
Reasons for the report regarding pupil intake limits is to ensure that plans are in place to ensure catchment places as a result of new housing in the area and recent increases in population.
