Council reports on performance in 2017/18

A public report setting out how Midlothian Council’s services performed in 2017/18 has been published.

Providing information

Council Leader, Councillor Derek Milligan, described the report as a key part of the local authority’s ongoing commitment to provide information to residents, businesses, community groups and partner organisations.

Balanced picture

“Our aim is to present a balanced picture, highlighting what we have achieved as well as setting out those areas where we need to do more to improve service delivery,” explained Councillor Milligan. “The report also allows us to explain more about how we spend the money available to us in the current, difficult financial climate. It recognises that we face major challenges in the years ahead as the demand for services rises at the same time as our funding is substantially reduced.

Reshaping services

“We are already working hard to reshape our services, to make sure that our resources are targeted at meeting our key priorities such as education and social care,” added Councillor Milligan. “While the council will have some hard and really unpopular decisions to make, we remain committed to working with our partners and local communities to make a real difference to the lives of the people who live and work here.”
