Council decision on school transport
At a meeting held on 25 June 2019, Midlothian Council unanimously agreed to reverse a decision to extend the distance at which school transport is provided from 2 to 3 miles. This is to allow further consultation with parents, care givers, pupil representatives and head teachers.
A motion put to the Council meeting in June pointed to concerns that extending the distance would disadvantage pupils living in the extended radius, which includes some of Midlothian’s most deprived areas. The Council has called on its officials to prepare a full equality assessment as well as consulting fully with those who would be affected by any change.
In the meantime, the school transport service currently provided remains in place.
