Celebrating diversity during Equal Midlothian week
Celebrate the contribution that different groups make to their communities by getting involved with Equal Midlothian Week.
More inclusive Midlothian
The purpose of Equal Midlothian Week is to raise awareness of equality issues and to promote a more equal Midlothian. A range of organisations working on equalities issues are holding events this week to highlight the work they do to create a fairer, more inclusive Midlothian.
Range of topics
Sessions will be held about topics such as disability, cooking skills and LGBTQIA+ issues. Some of the sessions are drop in and some need to be booked in advance.

Tuesday 14 March
Cooking with Nila
Come along and take part in some Indian Cooking with Nila. This class will teach you some basics that could save you spending money on takeaways.
Time: 10:00 – 11:30am

Wednesday 15 March
What Makes Good Support for people with Learning disabilities (People First event)
Take part in a giant snakes and ladders game! This is a free fun event for people to talk about their experiences. Just watch or join in the fun. Drinks and snacks provided.
Time: 10am – 12:00 noon
Venue: St Johns and Kings Park Church, opposite Morrisons, Dalkeith
- No need to book - just drop in for 5 minutes or stay for 2 hours.
Wednesday 15 March
Understanding sexuality and gender identity for parents and carers
Are you a parent or carer for a young person questioning their sexuality or gender identity? Do you want to better understand this topic? Join in with this online discussion.

Thursday 16 March
LGBTQIA+ history
A special event is being held as part of Equal Midlothian Week to discuss LGBTQIA+ history.
Time: 5.30pm
Venue: Croft Street Hub, 18 Croft Street, Dalkeith
- This is a free drop-in event. No booking required.
Friday 17 March
Multilingual Bookbugs
Bookbug encourages parents and carers to share books with their children as early as possible to inspire a love of reading. This is a special multilingual session for Equal Midlothian week.
Time: 10.15am
Venue: Dalkeith Library
