Twinning links in Midlothian

Midlothian council has long valued the importance of twinning links to:

  • promote peace and cultural exchange
  • create long-lasting friendships
  • boost trade and tourism
  • exchange information and skills.

Twinning areas

Since 1973, Midlothian has been twinned with regions Heinsberg in Germany and Komarom – Esztergom in Hungary.

Midlothian also has twinning arrangements with 6 French twin towns / villages:

  • Dalkeith - Jarnac, Charente, (established in 1960)
  • Bonnyrigg and Lasswade - Saint-Cyr-l'École, Yvelines, (established in 1964)
  • Penicuik - L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Vaucluse  (established in 1978)
  • Danderhall - Angres, Pas de Calais  (established in 1980)
  • Loanhead - Harnes, Pas de Calais (established in 1990)
  • Temple (and Moorfoot) - Ivry le Temple, Beauvais (established in 1995)

Maintaining relations

Each twinned area has or has had an active twinning association or support group whose role it is or was to establish and maintain friendly relations with its counterpart organisation in the twin area. The current Midlothian Council and its predecessors have traditionally supported these links.
