Stray dogs

If you find a stray dog call our dog warden on 0131 561 5284 and describe the dog and where you last saw it.

• Monday to Thursday 09:00 - 15:00
• Friday 09:00 - 14:00

If you find a stray dog outwith these hours, on public holidays or at weekends, please contact the nearest police station.

What happens to a stray dog

Stray dogs will be taken to the Edinburgh Dog and Cat home, 26 Seafield Road East, Edinburgh EH14 1EH. You can call them on 0131 669 5331.

When you collect your dog you will have to pay Edinburgh Dog and Cat home:

• their kennel fee of £25+VAT per day.
• their veterinary assessment fee of £50+VAT if you do not claim your dog before day 3.
• a legal 'stray fee' of £25

If you have lost your dog

To check if we have taken your dog to Edinburgh Dog and Cat home, call us or the kennels. We will ask you:

• Where and when you lost your dog
• A description of your dog, including breed and colour
• Whether your dog has a collar and tag.
