Order birth, death, marriage and civil partnership certificates
We can supply official birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificates registered in Scotland since 1855.

If the event was registered in England or Wales, please visit the Gov.uk website
If the event took place in the last 2 years, we can only supply certificates for events registered in Midlothian. If the event was registered elsewhere, please contact the office of registration.
If you were adopted, you will need to contact National Records of Scotland
Your order
- Only one type of certificate can be requested per order.
- If you need more than one type we will try to post these out together.
Order certificate
Fees
The statutory fee for a certificate is £15. If ordering two or more of the same certificate, the first costs £15 and each additional copy will cost £10.
If you are applying within one month of the date of registration, the fee is £10.
Processing time
We aim to process any certificate within 7 working days.
Postage
We will send your certificate(s) by recorded delivery. There will be an additional £3 charge for this.
Your responsibilities under data protection laws
Under the General Data Protection Regulation, Data Protection Act 2018 and the Human Rights Act 1998, you may only copy a certificate containing personal data about a living person with that person's permission.
