Transforming how we work

No 11

No 11

The first of its kind in Scotland, Number 11 in Dalkeith is a ground-breaking social health project giving vulnerable adults access to a range of services under one roof.

No wrong door

Housing mental health, substance use and justice services alongside third sector agencies, Number 11 operates a ‘no wrong door’ policy meaning anyone who comes in will be found the help they need.

Opened in 2019

Described as a trauma-informed integrated building, Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) developed the hub which opened in 2019.

A lifeline in lockdown

Just a year later, the building proved a lifeline to hundreds of clients in the community during the Covid lockdown.

Under one roof

Accommodating NHS, council and third sector support services under one roof means clients are spared the frustration of being told by one agency they need to go to another location or make a separate appointment at another time.

Right help at the right time

Instead, professionals are no further than a corridor away, enabling individuals to get the right help at the right time, expect recovery and fully enjoy their rights, free from discrimination and stigma at home in their own community.

Individuals fully involved in decisions around their care

This person-centred approach, in which individuals and families are fully involved in care decisions, means for example a client may come in having been released from prison and access a range of support, from help with substance use to housing and mental health counselling.

Mental Health and Resilience Service

As well as dealing with people face to face, in 2022 the service launched a Mental Health and Resilience Service (MHARS) helpline which people can call seven days a week for same-day access to services.

Since its launch, in conjunction with Scottish mental health charity Penumbra, it has provided help to more than 850 Midlothian residents aged 18 plus and in 2024 expanded its service to people aged over 65.
