Transforming how we work
Digital project replaces the schoolbag run

parentsportal.scot is a major digital project transforming how families connect with their child’s school.
Close to 9,000 families registered
From the start of the roll out in August 2025 to May 2026, 8,677 parents and carers signed up, replacing traditional paper-based communication with a more efficient, accessible digital service.
Multiple benefits
Parentsportal.scot is designed to make day-to-day communication simpler and more flexible for families and staff alike. Through the app, parents and carers can:
- Report a pupil’s absence at a time that suits them
- Check and update contact and medical information
- Complete the Annual Data Check
- Apply for free school transport (primary pupils)
- Complete permission slips (currently being rolled out)
- Access ParentPay for trips, lunches and other payments
- View school attendance, timetables and in some schools Parental Reports
Almost at 100%
Across the authority, some schools are already nearing full uptake. Bonnyrigg Primary, pictured, had a 98.76% registration rate, followed by King’s Park (95.83%) and Tynewater (95.45%). Figures at May 2026.
Saving staff time
Beyond improving communication with families, parentsportal.scot is also helping to reduce administrative pressures on school teams. For example, report cards will soon be shared through the portal, and families can complete the Annual Data Check online — something that used to require a major administrative effort.
