Glencorse consultation report published

Midlothian Council has published its report on a consultation to close Glencorse Primary School in Penicuik from June of next year.

Local people now have until Tuesday 19 January to read and comment on the report. Comments can be sent to either the EducationConsultation@midlothian.gov.uk email or to their local councillor. Contact details for councillors can be found on the Glencorse page of the website.

Councillors will consider on 19 January

The report will be considered and a decision made by the full Council on 19 January 2020.

Public asked to give views

Staff, parents and carers, pupils and the wider community were asked for their views on the proposals:

  • Primary education at Glencorse Primary School will cease from 25 June 2021
  • The catchment areas of Mauricewood and Roslin Primary Schools will extend to include the Glencorse catchment area
  • Remaining pupils can choose to attend Mauricewood or Roslin Primary Schools. The chosen school will then become their catchment school.
  • Children from the Glencorse catchment area who become primary school age can choose to attend Mauricewood or Roslin Primary Schools. The chosen school will then become their catchment school.
  • All children affected will be transported to school where: there is no safe walking route or the distance from home to school is more than 2 miles.
  • Early Learning and Childcare will continue as at present

Online questionnaire and meetings

People could fill in an online questionnaire or attend a range of meetings both virtual and in person.  This report has been prepared taking account of those responses to the consultation as well as those of Education Scotland whose report is included in the consultation report and published on its website and available on our consultations page.
