Celebrate the contribution that different groups make to their communities by getting involved with Equal Midlothian Week (1 - 7 March 2021).
A more equal Midlothian
The purpose of this week is to raise awareness of equality issues and to promote a more equal Midlothian. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing restrictions all of the events this year will be online however there will still be the usual variety of activities and entertainment with something for everyone.
Range of online events - something for everyone
A range of organisations working on equalities issues will be holding online events during the week to highlight the work they do to create a fairer, more inclusive Midlothian. This includes sessions about equality, mental health, nature & wildlife, travel and LGBT issues.
Midlothian Mela Saturday 6 March
The week culminates with the Midlothian Mela event on Saturday 6 March. This popular annual family event will feature music, dance performances, crafts, health and wellbeing and even a mandarin language class for children.
Be entertained and meet new people
Equalities Engagement Officer Erin Cuthbertson said: "I would encourage Midlothian residents to join in with these events which offer an opportunity to engage with new people and learn new things. The annual Mela event on the Saturday is a great event for families to pick up useful information and to be entertained.”
